Biography

Mondvolland - Folkloristic Metal

It all started during the end of 2005. In these wintry days Martijn and Mickeal started to put their ideas into reality. Covers from the older work of Darkthrone, Storm, Isengard and Taake were alternated with own compositions.
In the winter that followed we bundled our musical powers to write our own material, which we recorded in Martijn's home studio. Martijn already had the idea to give the traditional folk music from our region a place in metal, because we feel like the so-called 'pagan/folk metal' became too one-sided and mediocre. Pseudo-bombastic keyboards and self-proclaimed Vikings from all over the world aren't our cup of tea. The music that flowed here from would be combined with lyrics about local sagas, myths and history. A concept that breaths the old soul of the Low Lands now was born.

Spring 2006 we recorded our first demo, De roep der gevallen helden. From this time on we began to rehearse with drummer Patrick and violinist Willemijn to get gigs. Both have left our band. With them we recorded a rehearsaldemo in the begin of 2008 for promotional use which resulted in our first gig in January of that year.
Several months later Harold became a member of the clan to support us in the guitarparts. The mini-cd ...daar naast de Urthensula! came out in March 2009. Until that time we did several gigs in the Netherlands and Flanders with bands like Kampfar, Koldbrann, Hail of Bullets and Waylander.
From that moment on Mondvolland was temporarily "on hold" because we had no drummer. That year we worked hard on the mix of our debutalbum. In March 2010 Ask became our new drummer and made us complete again.
Our debutalbum d'Olde roop has been released on 1 June 2010 by Apollon Records.

On this moment Mondvolland still stands for a blend of folk and black metal on a very own manner with lyrics and atmosphere which tell from olden times of the Hamaland, Montferland but also the Veluwe and sometimes even further. Dutch multimedia platform 3VOOR12 called us once 'Achterhoekse Gouw-Metal' (Shire Metal from the Achterhoek), a term which fits us very well we think.

Mondvolland is:
Mickeal - bass, scream
Martijn - guitar, clean vocals
Harold - guitar
Ask - drums

detail uit het Gelders sagenboek van J.R.W. Sinninghe

(When the giants went up the hill of Elten, one of them accidentally dropped a piece of earth. He wanted to pick it up, when one of his buddies said: "That mond-vol-land ("mouth-full-of-earth") isn't worth picking up, let it lay there."
Since then the hill is called Mond-vol-land: Montferland.)
